Galle, a town of compelling history and melting-pot culture once visited by King Solomon and later a jewel in the colonial crowns of Portugal, the Netherlands and Britain, is home to one of the most picturesque stadia in world cricket.

Backed on two sides by the Indian Ocean and in the shadow of the Dutch Fort, Galle Cricket Ground is imbued with romance and atmosphere, playing host to heroics and outrageous misfortunes in its 19 years as a Test match venue. A joy for the cricket connoisseur, it ranks with Lord’s, Adelaide, Newlands and Calcutta’s Eden Gardens as an experience not to be missed.  With tracks that favour spinners and Sri Lanka’s formidable record, an England win at Galle would be a massive achievement. Join us here to cheer on their attempt.

You will be staying at the first class Bentota Beach Hotel. With its xtensive
gardens and both river and sea frontage it is a popular choice and an excellent first class established hotel. Like almost all quality hotels serving the Test match in Galle it is some distance from the ground and transfers times to the ground are approximately 75 minutes. This tastefully designed hotel by the renowned architect Geoffrey Bawa is beautifully located in mature gardens with the Bentota River on one side and enjoys the superb palm fringed West facing Bentota Beach which frequently hosts spectacular sunsets over the Indian Ocean. It is a longstanding Kuoni Hotel and an ideal location for partners who may not wish to attend every day of the match. We also hold a small number of Superior Rooms and Suites for which prices are available on request.
